La Brande, Camping Club 5 étoiles sur l’ile d’Oléron
The 10th stage of the Tour de France 2020 set off from the Château d’Oléron on 8 September 2020. The stage linked Oleron Island to Ré island for a real “postcard” stage by the sea at the gateway to the Atlantic. The riders have covered 167 kilometres passing the bridge of Oléron, then Marennes, Brouage, Rochefort as well as in front of the Tour de la Rochelle to finish in St Martin de Ré. The fortifications of Vauban were in the spotlights during the whole stage. From Fort Louvois to the citadel of Château d’Oléron, passing near the Vauban Fort of Fouras, the caravan passed by the famous Fort Boyard, a tourist jewel on Oleron Island.
The staff of Camping La Brande was present at the start of the stage to cover the event. The market place was set up with a large screen and numerous exhibitors. The fictitious start took place at the foot of the citadel of Le Château d’Oléron. After an official presentation of the runners on the stage, the adverstising caravan started at the end of the morning along the ramparts of the fortified village, while distributing numerous gifts for the spectators including Alain, Popo and Foufi. Many bike lovers participated in this historic start. This extraordinary event will remain engraved in the memories of the people of Oleron island.
